Back  Australia!

After a cold christmas with some cross country skiing and indoor training, Im now back in Australia! Arrived here last wednesday night and went to Ballarat where the australian national championships was on on the weekend. Had some few days there where I stayed with the QAS girls (queensland academy of sport). Nice to see some of the girls again! While they where doing their last preparations for their nationals, I was doing my first rides on my roadbike in 3 months..:) But really good to be on the bike again! Fortunatly the heat wasn't too bad the couple of first days, which made me feel better on the bike this time.

I'm now up in Albury, 3hrs north of Melbourne, where I will be till the end of january. Its been extremly hot again since we got back here sunday night, with more than 40 degrees. So I dont know whats the best; 40 degrees or 20-25 minus degrees in Norway...:)

But Im very excited about being back on the bike, I have already had some really good trainingdays, and am looking forward to some good basetraining on the bike!

Out riding in Ballarat.

Me, Louy and Zoe. (while emma is on the other side of the camera)

3hrs on the bike in the morning, then the rest of the day in the feedingzone (langesone) for the QAS girls during their nationals on saturday. Fun, but will rather stay on the bike:)

New team for 2010!

After 2 years in the belgian team Lotto Belisol, I have now signed for Fenixs. Fenixs will be based in Italy, Russia and Belgium. I will next year be a part of the team that is based in Belgium. I'm happy to go back to Belgium where I have friends in and outside the cycling. It's also nice to stay somewhere I know the trainingconditions, the racing and the country a bit!

Im looking forward to race in a team with good racing program, and hopefully there will be some own oppurtunities!:) For the first time I will also be joined by a couple of scandinavian girls, and Im excited about being able to talk my own language a bit at some of the races!;)

National Champion!

National championship in Sandnes went my way after a very close sprint with Elin S Fylkesnes, Team Alfa. So close that only the photofinish could tell who crossed the line first. Coming in to the finish Elin went early with one of her teammates on the wheel, while I jumped in to third position coming in to the last turn before the finish. I was so sure she was leading out for her team, and when I went to kick and start the sprint I realised that Elin had strenght and other thoughts then leading out, and I had to pass number two and then try and catch Elin that had a meter ahead her teammate. The finishline came fast, and I just managed to push the bike first over the finish line. The racing in Canada and the good motorpace sessions with my trainer and my brother the last week leading in to the nationals helped me to get the speed I needed:)

A big thank you to everyone that was cheering along the course and thanks for the champagne after the finish!;)

Back in Belgium and to a big suprise!

After a couple of days home with family I went back to Belgium on tuesday night.

After a relaxing day on wednesday I was suddenly told I could go with Sandina (from where I live) to wash my car. A little bit strange, but nice I thought..

Coming back to the house a big suprise was waiting for me with belgian friends waiting in the garden with flowers, cake, champagne and barbeque!

Thank you so much to all of you for your support and for a great night!

Danny, my masseur, with big flowers from "De Mennes" in the norwegian colors!

Two hard weeks..

I have now been in Belgium for about two weeks. I got the new team bike when I got here, and got to do the first race in Dottignies a couple of days later. But it hasn't been going as good as I was hoping and expecting. As my hips sometimes get a rotation and my back is a bit sensitive, I'm not very flexible for changes on my bike position. And as I did not make sure my bike was good enough fitted to the bike I have been using the whole winter, and raced right after I got it, I ended up with a really sore back.

Got my bike re-adjusted before Drenthe, and my legs felt heaps better. But the feeling in my back was still not gone, and with the races in Drenthe it got worse.

Its been very disappointing and hard when I haven't had any problems this winter, and this has been the first races of the season in Europe. Its also hard for the head. I had some great training in Australia where my contidion was getting better week by week and I came back to Europe feeling good.

But today I have been having great help of the physio David Bombeke who has been treating me. And straight away he could see what was wrong and was able to treat it. Its also good for the head to get verified that things actually wasn't right. It's so easy to think that maybe its's just in my head, and to get insecure.

My right hip had again a pretty big rotation, and as my hips weren't straight it gives a bit of a leg lenght difference. A lot of my muscles in my back, gluts and hip/hipflexer were really tight. After the treatment I can already feel a big difference! My back is now taped for releasing the muscles ,and on monday Im going back for another treatment that will make me ready for racing again!

So even if it's been disappointing since I got here to start the racing like this, it's good to now know whats wrong and that at least my back should be much better after a couple of good treatments. I know my training and preparations has been good:)

Back in Belgium and first race, Dottignies, on monday!

After a week home in Norway, with lots of snow and some good windtrainer (rulle) sessions and a couple of nice rides on the road the last days, I'm now back in Belgium.

It was good to come back home for a little bit and see family and friends, even though I was hoping it would be a little bit warmer and less snow. But the jetlag was going better this time, and I soon got into some good training -I also think windtrainer sessions can be good and efficiant training to do now and then, even if you maybe don't get as many hours as on the road. So I think it went pretty smooth to come back to the cold this time:)

Emma and me arrived in Belgium thursday night, where we got the new teambike; pinarello prince and the new kit for 2009! We are also just settling in to the new place in Viane, Geraardbergen, where we will be based when we are in Belgium.

Already on monday I am doing the first race with the team; Dottignies, BEL, which is a UCI race.

After that I will be travelling to Holland to do two UCI 1.1 races in Drenthe on friday and saturday and Drenthe w-cup the following monday!

Check out the new teambike below!

Last day in Australia

The time has been flying and my stay in Australia is over. I'm now at the airport in Melbourne waiting for my flight home, via Singapore and London. So I have a long trip in front of me with about 28hrs travel from here. Tomorrow I'm back in the snow, but I'm hoping it will be warm enough to be out on the roadbike a bit..

One of the last sessions in hot, sunny weather.

Bushfires in Australia

I experience a lot through my cycling and with all the travelling -but this week has definitely not been the nicest thing to remember. With the extreme weather the last weeks, record heat (49degrees), extreme wind and droughts in the state of Victoria, this has caused the worst bushfires in Australias history. Im based just on the border of New South Wales and Victoria, and the closest bushfire here has been about 20-30km from here - which was scary enough.

It was pretty smokey here some few days, and on the photos below taken from outside the house, you can see the difference in one week!

The training has still been going good, even though some few days didnt have the best conditions for a cyclist. But you cant really complain when you see what has happend to some towns closer to Melbourne that was hit by the worst firestorms. With up to 70metres high flames, catapulted by winds up to 110km/hr and energy expell equivalent to 500 Hiroshima atomic bombs released at once!

On the weekend we drove through Victoria, and past an area where the fire had jumped over the highway with 4 lanes! The front of the fire was at least 10km long, and had burned and left everything black as far as you could see! We spotted some few houses in the hills that had managed to be saved, while everything else around was burned. And you cant even imagine what they have been through when the fire leaped over their houses.

I feel really sorry for everybody that has lost their homes and more importantly for those who have lost somebody in this tragedy.

Back down under in a heatwave!

Im now back down under in Australia, and have arrived in Albury (3hrs north of Melbourne) to one of the hottest weeks on record! This week we have had temperatures over 40 degrees every day, and a maximum of 45. The week before I left Norway I was training up the mountains with down to -17 degrees. I was sitting on the plane counting up to 26 snow plough machines shuffeling the snow off the run way, and arrived in Melbourne in 43 degrees heat! So in less than a week I have gone through a 60 degrees temperature difference!

Its been great to be back on the bike, after 3 months of winter training with skiing, running, some mtb, wind trainer and weights. I have been feeling suprisingly good on my bike. But usually with the long travel and to adapt being back on my bike, I need to give it a bit of time and patience, let alone having to acclimatize to 40-45 degree heat. I can feel how much energy it takes out of me and it slows down my recovery time. But it hasn't stoped us from following the schedule as we try and go out 6 in the morning, home in time to cool off out of the heat before it gets to hot. Im looking forward to some good training down here, and will keep you updated in the coming weeks.

2nd in the norwegian championship!

On Saturday I did the national road championship in Bergen, and it was a good but very  hard and challenging course! We did 8 laps in a 9.5km long circuit, that started off in a 2 km climb with 5 to 8% gradient, followed by a undulating section before we started some steep and technical descending. The circuit ended  with a climb between 15-21(!)% with 300-400m to the finish from the top of the climb.

The girls were riding good, and already on the first lap the bunch was getting smaller. I felt good this day and had good legs! But the race wasnt going as ”smooth” as I was hoping. In the first lap up the steep climb before starting 2nd lap my chain snapped off, and I thought the race was over. But with a great effort of Jarle, my mechanic in the car, he got me back into the race after managing to relink my chain! I started to try and chase back on  3.30min behind the bunch. Because it was the nationals and early in the race I thought I wanted to give it a try even if I was going to use half the race to get back on -which Im very happy I did. I managed to get back on after only 1.5 laps. I was pretty tired after that, and used some time to try and recover a bit. But it was still a good pace in the group, especially in the climbs, so about 3 laps to go we were down to 6 girls. This group stayed together to the finish. Up the last steep climb before the finish Hege Linn was going pretty hard with Anita following, and I got myself in 3rd position before the top of the climb. On the top Anita opened the sprint, I followed, passed Hege Linn but didnt manage to pass Anita the last meters. Anita got in to a well earned  1st  place, while I finished on 2nd place! Congratulations to Anita for the national jersey! Im very happy for my race, but 2nd is bitter sweet, and I will try again next year for the jersey;)

Linn 2nd place, Anita Valen 1st place, Hege Linn Eie 3rd place.

3rd place in Borgerhout!

Back in Belgium after having a really good trainingblock in Norway, and Im finally finding myself getting into some better form towards  the nationals which is coming up on the 28th of june! Did two races on the weekend, the AA drink race in Passendale on Saturday and Borgerhout on Sunday.

Saturday we had Kathy in a break of  4, and I finished in the bunch on 15th place. On Sunday we were 4 riders from Lotto and we all tried to get away, and it seemed to be a day were no break would get away. About 4 laps to go I went with the belgian champion and found myself in a break with four riders, while one girl was already up the road by herself. We didnt manage to chase her back, and I got second in the sprint and finished 3rd overall, while Emma took the bunchsprint for 6th place. So a good day for Lotto and for myself as I got my first podium finish for the year!
